From conflicting and lengthy manufacturer's instructions to a lack of product standardization, Infection Preventionists (IPs) may feel overwhelmed while attempting to improve their facility's high-level disinfection (HLD) practices. This presentation will provide IPs with tools, techniques, and frameworks specific to HLD in any health care setting. The Spaulding classification scheme is described and evidence for adherence is presented. Participants are familiarized with current HLD auditing tools both from the Centers for Disease Control and the University of North Carolina Hospitals. IPs will learn how to confidently assess their HLD areas, apply evidence-based guidelines, set priorities, and improve challenging areas. This workshop is for all IPs who may have oversight of their HLD areas or who just want to know more about this highly complex process.
